Strong Thunderstorm Impacting Eastern Rowan County – Wind and Hail Possible

A strong thunderstorm is currently impacting eastern Rowan County, including the High Rock Lake area, as tracked by Doppler radar at 3:38 PM. The storm is nearly stationary and is expected to affect the area through 4:15 PM EDT.

Storm Details:

  • Hazards: Wind gusts up to 50 mph and half-inch hail

  • Radar Indication: Strong updrafts and lightning near High Rock Lake, with isolated hail cores

  • Movement: Nearly stationary, increasing the risk for localized wind damage and hail accumulation

Areas Being Impacted:

  • Granite Quarry

  • Rockwell

  • Spencer

  • High Rock Lake

  • Southeastern Salisbury

  • High Rock and Gold Hill

Potential Impacts:

  • Tree limbs could be knocked down and loose objects may be blown around

  • Minor hail damage to outdoor property is possible

  • Frequent cloud-to-ground lightning is occurring and could strike up to 10 miles from the storm

  • Stay off of High Rock Lake—lightning and wind pose a serious threat
