Back-to-Back Heat Advisories Issued for Rowan County: Heat Index Could Reach 110°

Wednesday, June 25, 2025 - 2:20pm

ROWAN COUNTY, NC (June 25, 2025) — The National Weather Service has issued two consecutive Heat Advisories for Rowan County and surrounding areas as dangerously high heat index values grip the region.

Advisory Details

  • Wednesday Heat Advisory: In effect now through 8 PM tonight, with heat index values up to 110° possible.

  • Thursday Heat Advisory: Will be in effect from 2 PM to 8 PM, with heat index values forecast to reach as high as 108°.

The advisories also include Cabarrus, Davie, Iredell, Mecklenburg, and Union Counties. These levels of heat can quickly become dangerous, especially for vulnerable populations and those working or exercising outdoors.

Why This Matters

The heat index measures what it feels like when you combine air temperature and humidity. When it climbs above 105°, the body struggles to cool itself effectively—raising the risk of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Do NOT Leave Kids or Pets in Vehicles

Even with windows cracked, vehicle interiors can become lethal in minutes under this type of heat. Check your backseat every time.

Safety Tips

  • Stay hydrated: Drink water throughout the day, not just when you’re thirsty

  • Remain indoors during peak heat (2–6 PM)

  • Use fans or A/C and limit time outdoors

  • Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing

  • Take breaks if working outside and watch for signs of heat exhaustion: dizziness, headache, nausea, and rapid pulse

Check on elderly neighbors, children, and pets, who are especially vulnerable in extreme heat.

What’s Next?

Although the upper-level ridge is gradually weakening, it will remain hot and humid through the weekend. Daily thunderstorm chances will increase, but not enough to fully break the heat. Rowan County Weather will continue to track and report on additional advisories as conditions evolve.
