Published: June 25, 2025 – Rowan County Weather

Rowan County is facing a hazardous weather combination today: dangerously high heat followed by the threat of strong to severe thunderstorms. A Heat Advisory remains in effect until 8 PM, and forecasters warn that scattered storms this afternoon and evening could bring damaging winds and hail to the area.

Heat Advisory in Effect

Temperatures are expected to reach the mid to upper 90s today, with heat index values as high as 105°. Rowan County is included in the Heat Advisory area issued by the National Weather Service, while counties to the east are under Excessive Heat Warnings with even higher expected index values.

Prolonged exposure to this type of heat can be dangerous. The combination of high temperatures and humidity increases the risk of heat-related illnesses, especially for those working outdoors or without access to air conditioning.
Residents are advised to:

  • Stay hydrated

  • Limit outdoor activity during peak heat (2–6 PM)

  • Check on elderly neighbors and pets

Storm Prediction Center Highlights Rowan County

Later today, attention shifts to the skies. The Storm Prediction Center has placed Rowan County in a Level 2 (Slight Risk) for severe thunderstorms.

Storms are expected to develop between 3 PM and 7 PM, fueled by high instability in the atmosphere. Forecast models show CAPE values over 3,000 J/kg, which supports the potential for:

  • Damaging wind gusts

  • Isolated large hail

  • Brief periods of heavy rainfall and localized flooding, especially in low-lying areas

Humidity & Storms Stick Around

The hot and humid pattern will persist through the weekend. While temperatures may ease slightly by Friday and Saturday, daily afternoon storm chances will continue, keeping conditions muggy and unsettled.

Bottom Line

Today’s forecast brings two threats—dangerous heat and the potential for severe storms. Be prepared for both and stay weather-aware throughout the day.
