June 18, 2025 — Rowan County Weather
The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has placed Rowan County under a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) for severe thunderstorms on Thursday, June 19, as a cold front moves through the Carolinas.
A line of showers and thunderstorms is expected to develop Thursday afternoon and move eastward into Rowan County by late afternoon or early evening. While the exact timing is still uncertain, storms could arrive as early as 2 PM or hold off until 7 PM, depending on how the system evolves.
Primary Threat: Damaging Winds
The main hazard with Thursday’s storms will be straight-line winds capable of damaging trees, power lines, and structures. Some storms could also produce large hail, particularly across the Piedmont region. Locally heavy rainfall is possible, but widespread flooding is not expected.
What to Expect:
-
Timing: Storms possible in Rowan County between 2 PM and 7 PM
-
Main Hazard: Damaging winds 40–60+ mph
-
Secondary Hazards: Isolated large hail, brief heavy rain
-
Rainfall Amounts: Light to moderate, with locally higher totals in stronger cells
Behind the Front:
Cooler and less humid air will settle in behind the front on Friday and Saturday, bringing a brief break from the oppressive heat and humidity. However, temperatures and moisture levels are expected to climb again by late weekend, with heat index values possibly exceeding 100 degrees early next week.
Residents are encouraged to stay weather aware and monitor updates from Rowan County Weather and the Storm Prediction Center. Radar tracking and real-time alerts will be provided as Thursday’s storm system approaches.
