A strong thunderstorm is moving through the heart of the Charlotte metro area and is expected to impact Cabarrus, Rowan, and surrounding counties through 7:00 PM EDT.
At 5:58 PM, Doppler radar detected a storm near Davidson, approximately 5 miles north of Huntersville, moving east at 35 mph. The storm is producing wind gusts up to 50 mph and pea-sized hail.
Areas Likely to Be Affected:

Charlotte (Uptown, Central, East, Northeast, and Northwest)

Huntersville, Davidson, and Cornelius

Kannapolis and Downtown Concord

Salisbury and surrounding communities in Rowan County
Hazards:

Wind gusts up to 50 mph – capable of knocking down limbs and unsecured objects

Pea-sized hail – could cause minor damage to vehicles, roofs, and outdoor equipment

Lightning – frequent cloud-to-ground strikes accompanying this storm
