A strong thunderstorm is moving through portions of the western Piedmont this afternoon and is expected to impact northwestern Rowan County and surrounding areas through 5:00 PM EDT.
At 4:19 PM, Doppler radar indicated a strong thunderstorm located about 7 miles northwest of Statesville, near Stony Point. The storm is moving east at 25 mph and is producing wind gusts up to 40 mph.
Areas Impacted:

Northwestern Rowan County, including the Cleveland area

Iredell County – Statesville, Harmony, Turnersburg, Cool Springs

Eastern Alexander County – Hiddenite, Stony Point

Northwestern Davie County – near the county line

Love Valley and Lookout Shoals Lake
Hazards:

Wind gusts up to 40 mph capable of knocking down small tree limbs and blowing around unsecured objects

Frequent cloud-to-ground lightning, which can strike as far as 10 miles from the storm core

Be cautious of lightning, even if the sky appears clear in your area.

Avoid water activities at Lookout Shoals Lake or any outdoor recreation until the storm passes.
This storm does not currently meet severe thunderstorm criteria, but it could still produce dangerous conditions, especially for those outdoors or traveling.
