Rowan’s Weekend Rain Chances: What the Models Are Showing Now
By Rowan County Weather
As we move deeper into the week, forecast models are starting to come into better agreement about our next rain event — and all eyes are on Thursday through Saturday for Rowan County.
Thursday: A Subtle Shift Begins
Moisture begins creeping into the area late Thursday afternoon. Right now, we're looking at a 30% chance of showers developing after 3 PM. Some model runs hint at isolated thunder, but at this time, instability appears limited.
Temperatures will still climb to near 78°, making it feel more like early summer — but with increasing cloud cover.
Thursday Night into Friday: Better Rain Potential
By Thursday night, the rain chances tick up to 40%, with scattered showers and the possibility of a few rumbles of thunder. Overnight lows will hover around 61°.
Friday remains a bit uncertain. Forecast confidence is moderate, with about a 30% chance of showers, mainly after 10 AM. The exact track and strength of the system will determine how widespread the rainfall becomes. Expect partly sunny skies in between potential rounds of rain, and highs around 73°.
Saturday: Cooler, Still Cloudy
If you’ve got weekend plans, keep an umbrella close — but don’t cancel anything just yet. While model data varies, we’re leaning toward a mainly dry but cloudy Saturday, with cooler air filtering in. Highs are expected to top out near 66° with lows in the mid-50s.
How Much Rain Could We See?
Preliminary estimates show 0.25" to 0.5" possible through Saturday, with localized higher totals if stronger showers develop. This isn’t a washout, but enough to impact outdoor events, gardening, and ballgames.
We’ll be refining the forecast as confidence increases — especially around storm timing Thursday night.
