Strong Thunderstorm Moving Through Southeastern Rowan County

A strong thunderstorm is currently impacting southeastern Rowan County and is expected to continue through at least 3:45 PM.

At 3:00 PM, Doppler radar detected the storm approximately 9 miles southeast of Salisbury, near the High Rock Lake area. The storm is tracking northeast at 25 mph and is capable of producing wind gusts up to 50 mph and nickel-sized hail.

Areas Most Likely Affected:

  • Gold Hill

  • Faith

  • Rockwell

  • High Rock

  • Granite Quarry

  • High Rock Lake

  • Spencer

Possible Hazards:

  • Gusty winds that may knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects

  • Small hail, which could cause minor damage to outdoor items

What You Should Do:

If you’re outdoors or in a mobile setup, seek shelter inside a sturdy building immediately. Stay away from windows and avoid driving until the storm passes, if possible.
