Storms Wait Until Late Today, But Not Everyone Will See Rain
ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — After a quiet start to the day, another round of scattered showers and thunderstorms is expected to develop across Rowan County later this afternoon and evening.
The good news is that much of the day will remain dry, making it a good opportunity to complete outdoor activities before storm chances begin increasing after 2:00 PM.
Keep in mind that not everyone will see rain today. Storm coverage will remain scattered, meaning some communities may receive a brief heavy downpour while others stay completely dry. This is typical of summertime weather patterns, where storms develop in isolated pockets rather than covering the entire county.
Any thunderstorm that does develop will be capable of producing:
- Heavy downpours
- Frequent lightning
- Gusty winds
- Brief ponding of water on roadways and in poor drainage areas
Widespread severe weather is not expected, but remember that lightning can strike well away from the heaviest rainfall. If thunder is heard, move indoors until the storm passes.
Temperatures will climb into the upper 80s this afternoon before storms begin developing.
This unsettled pattern continues through Saturday with scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms each day. Beginning Sunday, rain chances become more isolated while temperatures gradually climb back into the upper 80s and lower 90s, bringing a return to more typical August weather.
