Drought Conditions Continue to Improve Across Rowan County

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — This week's U.S. Drought Monitor shows continued improvement across Rowan County as recent rounds of rainfall have reduced the intensity of drought conditions.

While drought conditions have not been eliminated, the latest update shows measurable improvement compared to last week.

Current Drought Status

• 24.37% of Rowan County is classified as Abnormally Dry (D0).
• 75.63% of the county is classified as Moderate Drought (D1).
• 0% of the county is experiencing **Severe (D2), Extreme (D3), or Exceptional (D4) drought.

What's Changed?

Compared to last week:

• Moderate Drought (D1) coverage has improved from 100% to 75.63%.
• Portions of western Rowan County have improved from Moderate Drought (D1) to Abnormally Dry (D0).
• The Drought Severity and Coverage Index (DSCI) has improved from 200 to 176, reflecting an overall reduction in drought intensity.

The latest map shows the greatest improvement across portions of western Rowan County, while most of the county remains in Moderate Drought (D1).

Looking Ahead

Daily opportunities for showers and thunderstorms are expected through Saturday. While not everyone will receive rainfall each day, any storms that develop could produce locally heavy downpours capable of improving soil moisture where they occur.

Even with the recent improvements, it will take additional widespread rainfall over the coming weeks to completely remove the remaining drought conditions across Rowan County.
