Heavy Rain Continues Across Rowan County Today: Flooding Reported in Salisbury

SALISBURY, N.C. — Periods of heavy rain continue across Rowan County this morning, and the first reports of flooding are already coming in.

According to the Salisbury Police Department, officers are responding to reports of flooding in Salisbury as steady rain continues to move across the city. Motorists are urged to use caution, avoid flooded streets, and allow extra travel time.

Heavy Rain Continues Through Today

A slow-moving weather pattern will keep showers and thunderstorms over Rowan County throughout the day. While forecast rainfall totals have trended slightly lower than earlier projections, the atmosphere remains capable of producing periods of heavy rainfall.

Some thunderstorms may produce brief downpours that can quickly overwhelm storm drains and create localized flooding, especially in urban areas and locations with poor drainage.

Temperatures will remain well below average for late July, with highs only reaching the mid-70s under cloudy skies and persistent rainfall.

Flooding Could Develop Quickly

Even though the overall flash flood threat has decreased, isolated flooding remains possible through today and into Friday.

Be especially cautious around:

• Flooded intersections and roadways
• Low-lying and poor drainage areas
• Creeks and small streams that can rise rapidly
• Areas that receive repeated rounds of heavy rain

If you encounter water covering the roadway, Turn Around, Don't Drown. It only takes a small amount of moving water to make driving dangerous.

Improving Weather This Weekend

The unsettled weather pattern will gradually weaken through the weekend. Scattered showers and thunderstorms remain possible Saturday, but conditions are expected to improve Sunday as sunshine returns.

High temperatures will climb back into the mid-80s Sunday and upper 80s Monday, bringing a return to a more typical late July weather pattern with mainly afternoon thunderstorm chances.
