Flood Advisory Issued for Rowan County Until 12:30 PM
SALISBURY, N.C. — The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Advisory for Rowan County and southeastern Iredell County until 12:30 p.m. EDT as heavy rain continues to fall across the region.
Widespread rainfall totals of 2 to 3 inches have already been observed across the advisory area this morning, with locally higher amounts possible before the rain tapers off.
Flooding Concerns Continue
As additional rainfall falls through late morning, flooding is expected to continue in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Small streams and creeks are also expected to remain elevated, with some moving out of their banks.
The National Weather Service says flooding is most likely between Interstate 40 and Interstate 85, where the heaviest rainfall has occurred.
Particular concern exists for:
- Second Creek
- Third Creek
- Fourth Creek
- Grants Creek
- Town Creek around the greater Salisbury area
Residents living near these waterways should closely monitor conditions as water levels continue to rise.

The advisory includes much of Rowan County, including:
- Salisbury
- Kannapolis
- China Grove
- Spencer
- Landis
- Granite Quarry
- Rockwell
- Cleveland
- Faith
- Mount Ulla
- Woodleaf
- Gold Hill
- High Rock Lake
It also includes portions of southeastern Iredell County, including Mooresville and areas around Lake Norman.
Travel With Caution
Heavy rain will continue to create hazardous travel conditions through the morning.
Motorists should expect:
- Water covering some roadways
- Flooding in low-lying areas
- Reduced visibility in heavier downpours
- Rapid rises on small creeks and streams
Never drive through flooded roads. Even shallow water can hide road damage or sweep a vehicle off the roadway.
Report Flooding Safely
If it is safe to do so, residents are encouraged to report flooding that threatens roads or property to the National Weather Service. Include the specific location, intersection, or address, along with an estimate of the flood depth if possible.
