Rowan County Forecast: Heat Holds On Through Saturday, Relief Arrives This Weekend
Good Wednesday morning! Summer isn't going anywhere just yet. Rowan County will continue to deal with hot afternoons and muggy conditions through Saturday, with only isolated to scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms. The bigger weather change arrives this weekend as a cold front moves through, bringing a better chance of rain and thunderstorms followed by noticeably cooler temperatures and lower humidity for Sunday and early next week.
Today's Forecast
Expect mostly sunny skies with temperatures climbing to around 95° this afternoon. When you factor in the humidity, it will feel more like 100 to 102 degrees during the hottest part of the day. While most locations stay dry, a 20% chance of an isolated afternoon thunderstorm develops after 3 PM. Any storm that forms could produce brief heavy rain, gusty winds, and frequent lightning.
Tonight will be partly cloudy with a 30% chance of a shower or thunderstorm before 11 PM. Overnight lows fall to around 71°.
The Rest of the Week
Thursday and Friday remain very similar.
- Highs both days reach the mid-90s.
- Heat index values approach 100 degrees each afternoon.
- Only isolated afternoon and evening thunderstorms are expected, with most neighborhoods remaining dry.
- Any storm that develops could become briefly strong with damaging wind gusts the primary concern.
Weekend Changes
Saturday will bring increasing clouds and a much better chance for showers and thunderstorms as a cold front approaches. Rain chances increase to 60% during the afternoon and evening, and some storms could become strong.
By Sunday, the front settles south of the area, bringing a dramatic change compared to recent days.
- High temperatures only reach the mid-80s.
- Humidity levels begin dropping.
- Showers and thunderstorms remain likely during the afternoon before gradually diminishing Sunday night.
Looking Ahead
Early next week is shaping up to feature some of the most comfortable weather we've experienced in quite some time. Cooler temperatures and noticeably lower humidity are expected as high pressure builds into the region behind the cold front.
What I'm Watching
- Hot afternoons continue through Saturday with heat index values around 100-102°.
- Isolated afternoon storms each day through Friday may produce damaging wind gusts.
- The best chance for widespread rain arrives Saturday afternoon through Sunday.
- A refreshing break from the heat arrives Sunday into early next week, with highs dropping into the mid-80s.
Stay hydrated if you're spending time outdoors, take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning, and never leave children or pets inside a parked vehicle. After several days of summer heat, the cooler weather arriving this weekend will be a welcome change across Rowan County.
