Friday Heat Advisory

  • Noon until 8:00 PM Friday

What to Expect Friday

Another dangerously hot afternoon is expected across Rowan and Davie counties with:

  • High temperatures around 101 degrees
  • Heat index values up to 107 degrees
  • Mostly sunny skies
  • Light winds providing little relief

Today's advisory continues through this evening with heat index values reaching as high as 109 degrees in some locations before another round of dangerous heat arrives Friday afternoon.

Heat Safety

If you'll be spending time outdoors Friday, take extra precautions to protect yourself from the dangerous heat.

  • Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
  • Spend time in air-conditioned buildings whenever possible.
  • Take frequent breaks in the shade if working or exercising outdoors.
  • Wear lightweight, loose-fitting, light-colored clothing.
  • Check on elderly family members, neighbors, and anyone without reliable air conditioning.
  • Never leave children or pets inside a parked vehicle, even for a few minutes. Vehicle interiors can reach life-threatening temperatures very quickly.

Heat-related illnesses can develop rapidly during prolonged periods of extreme heat. If someone begins showing signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke, move them to a cool location immediately and seek emergency medical assistance if symptoms become severe.

Looking Ahead

Dangerous heat will continue through the Independence Day holiday weekend, with afternoon highs remaining around 100 degrees each day. A gradual pattern change arrives early next week as afternoon shower and thunderstorm chances increase, allowing temperatures to slowly trend back toward more typical early July values.
