Heat Advisory Extended Into Friday for Davidson County

The National Weather Service has extended the Heat Advisory into Friday for Davidson County as dangerous heat continues to grip central North Carolina heading into the Independence Day weekend.
The advisory remains in effect until 8:00 PM today, and a second Heat Advisory has been issued for Friday from Noon until 8:00 PM.
What to Expect
Another dangerously hot afternoon is expected Friday with:
- High temperatures around 101°
- Heat index values reaching 105 to 107 degrees
- Mostly sunny skies
- Very light winds providing little relief
The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will significantly increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, especially for anyone spending extended periods outdoors.
Heat Safety
If you have outdoor plans Friday, whether you're working, preparing for Independence Day celebrations, or spending time outside, take extra precautions:
- Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
- Spend as much time as possible in air-conditioned buildings.
- Take frequent breaks in shaded areas if working outdoors.
- Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing.
- Check on elderly family members, neighbors, and anyone without reliable air conditioning.
- Never leave children or pets inside a parked vehicle.
If someone begins showing signs of heat illness, move them to a cool, shaded location immediately. Heat stroke is a medical emergency—call 911 immediately.
Looking Ahead
The dangerous heat is expected to continue through the Fourth of July weekend before a gradual pattern change arrives early next week. While temperatures will remain very hot through Sunday, increasing afternoon thunderstorm chances beginning Monday should help bring temperatures back closer to normal for early July.
