Dangerous heat will continue across Davidson County through the Independence Day holiday weekend as temperatures remain near 100 degrees each afternoon.

A Heat Advisory is in effect Friday from Noon until 8:00 PM as heat index values climb as high as 104 degrees. While a stray shower or thunderstorm is possible later in the weekend, most of the holiday period will remain hot and dry.

Friday Forecast

Friday: Sunny and dangerously hot with a high near 101°. Heat index values could reach 104° during the afternoon. Winds remain light and variable.

Friday Night: Mostly clear and warm with a low around 73°.

Independence Day Forecast

The weather will cooperate for holiday celebrations, but the heat will be the biggest concern.

Saturday (Independence Day): Sunny and hot with a high near 100°. Heat index values could reach 103° during the afternoon.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy with a 20% chance of an isolated shower or thunderstorm before 2 AM. Low around 76°.

Early Next Week

A more typical summertime weather pattern returns as the upper-level ridge weakens.

Monday: Mostly sunny and hot with a high near 98°. A 50% chance of afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms develops after 2 PM.

Monday Night: A 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms before 2 AM. Mostly cloudy with a low around 71°.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny with a high near 94° and a 40% chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms.

Tuesday Night: A 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms with a low around 70°.

Heat Safety

The prolonged nature of this heat wave remains the greatest concern.

  • Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
  • Take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas.
  • Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing.
  • Never leave children or pets unattended in parked vehicles.
  • Check on elderly family members, neighbors, and anyone without reliable air conditioning.

Warm overnight temperatures in the 70s will provide little relief, allowing heat stress to build over several consecutive days.

Storm Chances

Most of the holiday weekend should remain dry across Davidson County. While isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible late Saturday and Sunday, the better opportunity for rain arrives Monday as a weakening heat ridge and an approaching front allow more typical summertime afternoon thunderstorm activity to return.

Looking Ahead

The dangerous heat will gradually ease early next week as temperatures fall back into the lower to middle 90s. Daily afternoon and evening thunderstorm chances will become more common, bringing a more seasonable July weather pattern to Davidson County.
