Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued for Northwestern Rowan County and Parts of Davie and Iredell Counties

Saturday, June 27, 2026 - 3:49pm

The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for northwestern Rowan County, central Davie County, and northeastern Iredell County until 4:45 PM.

At 3:46 PM, Doppler radar indicated a severe thunderstorm located about 4 miles south of Harmony, or 10 miles northeast of Statesville, moving east at 40 mph.

The strongest portions of this storm are capable of producing:

  • Ping pong ball size hail
  • Wind gusts up to 60 mph

Communities included in the warning include Woodleaf, Mocksville, Cooleemee, Advance, Harmony, Fork Church, Turnersburg, Olin, Cool Springs, and Sheffield.

Residents in the warned area should move indoors immediately and stay away from windows. Large hail can cause significant damage to vehicles, roofs, siding, and windows, while strong winds may bring down trees and power lines.

If you are outdoors, seek sturdy shelter immediately. Do not remain under trees or in open areas as the storm approaches.

I will continue monitoring this storm as it moves east and will provide additional updates if new warnings are issued or if the storm approaches other parts of Rowan County.
