Flood Advisory Issued for Southwestern Davidson County Until 9 PM

Monday, June 8, 2026 - 6:07pm

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Advisory for portions of southwestern Davidson County due to heavy rainfall and the threat of minor flooding.

The advisory remains in effect until 9:00 PM.

Why the Advisory Was Issued

Heavy thunderstorms moving across the area have produced significant rainfall, leading to concerns about flooding in low-lying and poor drainage locations.

According to Doppler radar estimates, between 1 and 2.5 inches of rain has already fallen across parts of the advisory area. Additional rainfall amounts of up to 2 inches remain possible this evening.

The combination of saturated ground and additional heavy rain may result in minor flooding in areas that are prone to poor drainage.

Areas Impacted

Locations included in the advisory include:

  • Lexington
  • Linwood
  • High Rock Lake
  • High Rock Lake Marina & Campground
  • NC Wildlife Access Boat Launch

Residents near creeks, streams, low-lying roads, and areas with poor drainage should remain alert for rapidly changing conditions.

What to Expect

Flooding is expected to remain minor in nature, but localized issues may develop where the heaviest rainfall occurs.

Potential impacts include:

  • Water covering roadways
  • Flooding of low-lying areas
  • Ponding of water in poor drainage locations
  • Reduced visibility during heavy rainfall

Motorists should be especially cautious during the evening commute and avoid any roadway covered by water.

Turn Around, Don't Drown

The National Weather Service continues to remind drivers that most flood-related fatalities occur in vehicles.

Never attempt to drive through flooded roadways. The depth of the water and the condition of the road underneath may be impossible to determine.

Remember:

Turn Around, Don't Drown.

Additional Rainfall Possible

Thunderstorms remain active across portions of Davidson County this evening, and additional rainfall could worsen flooding concerns in areas already receiving heavy rain.

Rowan County Weather will continue monitoring conditions and provide updates if additional advisories, warnings, or statements are issued.
