Thursday, April 23, 2026 - 9:01am

Rowan, Davie, and Davidson Counties

It was another very dry week across much of the Southeast, and that is now showing up in the latest Drought Monitor update.

What Happened This Week

  • Limited rainfall across the region, with only a few areas seeing measurable precipitation
  • Temperatures ran near to above normal, accelerating drying conditions
  • Dry soils and stressed vegetation continue to worsen

What’s Changed

Drought conditions expanded and intensified across much of the Southeast:

  • Carolinas:
Severe and extreme drought expanded, especially across western areas and along southern North Carolina into northern South Carolina
  • Georgia & Florida Panhandle:
    Moderate to extreme drought expanded
Exceptional drought grew in southern Georgia and northern Florida
  • Alabama:
Nearly the entire state saw worsening conditions
All areas are now in drought, with extreme drought covering much of the south

Local Impact

Here in the Carolinas, we’re seeing:

  • Increasing stress on vegetation
  • Elevated fire danger continuing
  • Growing need for consistent rainfall

Looking Ahead

Rain chances return this weekend and into next week.

While this won’t erase the drought, it’s a step in the right direction if we can string together multiple rain events.

Key Takeaways

  • Another very dry week across the Southeast
  • Drought expanded and intensified in many areas
