Sunday Soaker Ahead: How Much Rain Will Rowan County See?
After a warm and mostly quiet Saturday across Rowan County, attention now turns to a much wetter Sunday as a cold front moves through the region.
Timing the Rain
Most of Saturday stays dry, with only a small chance of a late-day shower or storm. The better rain chances arrive overnight and especially into Sunday morning through the afternoon.
- Early Sunday (Daybreak – Late Morning): Showers begin to move in
- Midday into Afternoon: Steadier rain with a few embedded thunderstorms
- Late Afternoon into Evening: Rain gradually tapers off from west to east
While you may see a rumble of thunder, this is not shaping up to be a severe weather event.
How Much Rain Are We Expecting?
Current projections show most of Rowan County receiving:
- Around 0.25" to 0.50" of rainfall
Some localized spots could pick up a bit more, especially under heavier showers, but widespread heavy rain is not expected.
Why This Rain Matters
Even though this won’t be a major storm system, the rainfall is beneficial.
Rowan County continues to deal with ongoing drought conditions, and while this won’t erase deficits, it will help:
- Improve soil moisture
- Support early spring growth
- Reduce fire danger temporarily
Severe Weather Risk?
At this time, the risk for severe weather remains low.
The system lacks the instability needed to support strong or organized storms locally. While a few storms could briefly produce gusty winds or heavier downpours, widespread impacts are not expected.
What Happens After the Rain?
Once the cold front moves through, a noticeable change arrives:
- Monday: Sunny and cooler (upper 60s)
- Tuesday – Wednesday: Dry with highs in the 60s
- Mornings: Chilly, with some areas dipping into the upper 30s
It will feel much more like early spring again after Sunday’s rain.
Bottom Line
- Warm and mostly dry Saturday
- Sunday = the wettest day of the week
- Rainfall totals around ¼ to ½ inch
- Low severe weather risk
- Cooler, drier air returns next week
If you have outdoor plans Sunday, you’ll want a backup option.
And as always, I’d love to hear from you —
