This is about as close to “perfect” spring weather as we get in Rowan County.
Temperatures are comfortable, the sun is out, and there’s just enough of a breeze to make it feel great sitting outside — whether that’s on your porch, at a ballgame, or grabbing coffee in town.
But while today (and even tomorrow) deliver that ideal spring feel… changes are already on the way.
Today’s Setup: About as Good as It Gets
We’re seeing a classic spring pattern right now:
- Late morning temperatures in the low 70s
- Sunshine dominating the sky
- A light southwest breeze keeping things comfortable
This afternoon, we’ll climb to around 82°, which is slightly above normal for early April — but not overly humid, so it still feels great.
Bottom line:
If you’ve been waiting for a “perfect weather” day… this is it.
Why It Feels So Good Right Now
This stretch is being driven by a system offshore (often called a Bermuda high) pulling in warm air — but without the heavy humidity we see later in the summer.
That’s why it feels warm… but not sticky.
It’s also helping keep skies mostly clear and limiting widespread rain — at least for now.
The Weekend Shift: When Things Change
As we head into the weekend, that quiet pattern starts to break down.
Saturday
- Still warm (low 80s)
- Mostly dry during the day
- A small chance of a late-day shower or storm
Saturday Night into Sunday
- A cold front moves in
- Rain chances increase overnight
- Sunday looks like the wettest day
Right now, there’s a strong signal that most of us will see rain on Sunday, with periods of showers and possibly a few thunderstorms.
Will This Help the Drought?
This is the big question — and the answer is:
It helps… but it won’t fix it.
Rowan County remains in severe to extreme drought, and while this system could bring some beneficial rain, it will likely take multiple steady systems to really turn things around.
What Happens After the Front?
Once the front moves through, you’ll notice a quick change:
- Highs drop back into the 60s by Monday
- Nights turn cooler (40s)
- Drier air returns
It’ll feel much more like early spring again instead of early summer.
Bottom Line
- Today & Friday: Near-perfect spring weather
- Saturday: Warm, slight late-day rain chance
- Sunday: Best chance for widespread rain
- Next Week: Cooler and drier air returns
One More Thing…
If you’ve got outdoor plans this weekend:
Saturday (especially earlier in the day) is your best window
Sunday is the day most likely to be impacted by rain
Rowan County Weather will continue to track the weekend system and update you on timing and impacts.
Stay tuned — and enjoy today.
