Increased Fire Danger Thursday Across Davidson County (11 AM – 8 PM)

Thursday, April 2, 2026 - 7:44am

An Increased Fire Danger is in effect today across Davidson County and much of central North Carolina from 11 AM through 8 PM.

This includes communities such as Lexington, Thomasville, and surrounding areas, where conditions will be favorable for rapid fire spread.

Why Fire Danger Is Elevated

A combination of weather conditions is creating a higher risk for wildfires:

  • Low relative humidity
  • Gusty winds
  • Very dry fuels (grass, leaves, and brush)

These factors make it easier for fires to start and spread quickly, even from small sparks.

Statewide Burn Ban Remains in Effect

A statewide burn ban issued by the North Carolina Forest Service is currently in place.

  • All open burning is prohibited
  • Violations can result in fines and penalties
  • The ban is in place due to ongoing dry conditions across the state

Safety Reminders

Residents are urged to take extra precautions today:

  • Properly dispose of cigarettes and matches
  • Avoid using equipment that may create sparks
  • Keep vehicles off dry grass and leaves
  • Do not burn yard debris or trash

Even a small ignition source can quickly lead to a fast-moving fire under today’s conditions.

Bottom Line

  • Increased fire danger from 11 AM to 8 PM today
  • Burn ban remains in effect statewide
  • Outdoor burning is not allowed

Stay aware and take precautions to help prevent wildfires across Davidson County.
