Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued for Northern Davidson County Until 10:45 AM

The National Weather Service in Raleigh has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning that includes northern Davidson County.

The warning is in effect until 10:45 AM EDT.

The warning also includes Forsyth County and western Guilford County.

Storm Location and Movement

At 10:00 AM, Doppler radar indicated a line of severe thunderstorms extending from near Pinnacle to northeast of Cooleemee, moving northeast at 60 mph.

This fast-moving line of storms will continue moving across the Triad region through the late morning hours.

Main Hazard

The primary threat with these storms is:

  • Wind gusts up to 60 mph

Potential Impacts

Strong winds could:

  • Damage roofs and siding

  • Knock down trees and large branches

  • Cause scattered power outages

Residents should be prepared for rapidly changing conditions as the storms move through.

Communities Impacted

Communities in the warning area include:

  • Lexington

  • Thomasville

  • Winston-Salem

  • Greensboro

  • High Point

  • Kernersville

  • Clemmons

  • Bermuda Run

  • Lewisville

  • Summerfield

Portions of northern Davidson County, including areas near Lexington and Thomasville, may experience strong winds as the line moves through.

Major Highways Impacted

Drivers may encounter heavy rain and strong winds along several major highways, including:

  • Interstate 85 near Mile Markers 101–123

  • Interstate 40 between Mile Markers 182 and 220

  • Interstate 73 between Mile Markers 91 and 103

  • Interstate 74 between Mile Markers 56 and 76

Motorists should use caution if traveling through the area.

Tornado Watch Still in Effect

A Tornado Watch remains in effect until 2:00 PM EDT for central North Carolina, meaning conditions remain favorable for severe storms and possible tornado development.

Residents should remain alert for the possibility of quickly developing tornadoes within stronger storms.

  • Stay away from windows

  • Remain sheltered until the storm passes
