Sunshine and mild temperatures will dominate through Saturday, making for ideal conditions to spend time outdoors. High temperatures Friday will reach near 60 degrees with some gusty southwest winds during the afternoon. Winds could occasionally gust close to 25 mph before easing later this evening.
Saturday looks even better.
High pressure settling over the region will bring sunny skies and warmer temperatures, with afternoon highs expected to reach near 70 degrees across Rowan County. Light winds and dry conditions should make it one of the nicest days we have seen so far this month.
Changes Begin Sunday
Clouds will gradually increase Sunday as moisture begins moving back into the Carolinas ahead of a strong cold front approaching from the west.
Most of the daytime hours Sunday should remain dry, although a few showers could develop during the afternoon. Current forecasts place the chance of rain around 30 percent after 2 PM, with highs again reaching around 70 degrees.
The more widespread rain arrives Sunday night.
Showers will become more likely overnight, and a few thunderstorms could develop late Sunday night as the atmosphere becomes more unstable ahead of the incoming cold front.
Storms Possible Monday
Monday will bring the most active weather of the period.
Showers and thunderstorms are expected as the cold front moves across the region. While it remains too early to determine the exact strength of storms in Rowan County, the setup will need to be monitored as we move closer to Monday.
Timing of the front will play a major role in how strong any storms become. If the front moves through during the warmest part of the day, the atmosphere could become unstable enough to support stronger storms.
Rowan County Weather will continue monitoring the latest forecast trends and provide updates as needed.
Much Colder Air Follows
Behind the cold front, much colder air will move into the region.
Temperatures Monday night are expected to drop near 30 degrees, with highs Tuesday only reaching the mid-40s. Overnight temperatures Tuesday night could fall into the mid-20s across portions of Rowan County.
While the official growing season has not yet begun, recent warm weather has already caused some plants and trees to start blooming. Those early blooms could be vulnerable to freezing temperatures early next week.
The Bottom Line
• Dry and pleasant through Saturday
• Rain chances increase Sunday afternoon
• Showers and thunderstorms likely Monday
• Much colder air arrives Monday night with freezing temperatures possible early next week
Rowan County Weather will continue providing updates throughout the weekend as we track the approaching storm system.
