The Warmest Week of the Year So Far is Arriving in Rowan County

Monday, March 9, 2026 - 7:52am

Rowan County is about to experience the warmest stretch of weather so far in 2026, with temperatures climbing well into the 80s by Tuesday and Wednesday.

For early March, that’s well above normal.

Average high temperatures in Rowan County this time of year typically sit in the upper 50s to near 60 degrees, meaning this week’s highs will run 20+ degrees warmer than average.

What’s Causing the Warm Weather?

A classic early spring pattern is setting up across the Southeast.

High pressure positioned over the Atlantic is allowing warm air from the Gulf of Mexico to flow north into the Carolinas. At the same time, a ridge of warmer air in the upper atmosphere is building across the region.

Together, those features will allow temperatures to climb quickly over the next couple of days.

Forecast highs include:

  • Monday: Around 75°

  • Tuesday: Around 81°

  • Wednesday: Around 84°

If temperatures climb a few degrees higher than forecast, some near-record highs could be approached across the Carolinas.

A Pattern Change Arrives Midweek

The warm weather won’t last forever.

A strong cold front will approach the region Wednesday night and move through the area Thursday morning.

This system is expected to bring showers and possibly a few thunderstorms, followed by a noticeable drop in temperatures.

By Thursday afternoon, highs may only reach the low 60s, and overnight temperatures could fall into the mid 30s by Thursday night.

What This Means for Rowan County

This type of rapid temperature swing is common in March, when the atmosphere is transitioning from winter to spring.

Warm air can surge north quickly, but strong cold fronts are still able to push cooler air back into the Carolinas.

For Rowan County residents, it means enjoying a few days of spring-like warmth, but keeping an eye on the changing weather later this week.
