Rowan County’s First Pollen Forecast of the Season

Sunday, March 1, 2026 - 9:53am

Pollen season has officially arrived in Rowan County.

After a stretch of mild temperatures and increasing sunshine, tree pollen is now ramping up across the area — and many of you are already feeling it.

Today’s Pollen Index: 9.5 (Medium-High)

Top Allergens:

  • Maple

  • Alder

  • Juniper

A level of 9.5 places us solidly in the medium-high category. Sensitive individuals may experience:

  • Sneezing

  • Runny or stuffy nose

  • Itchy, watery eyes

  • Scratchy throat

  • Increased asthma symptoms

Tree pollen is the primary driver right now, and with warm afternoon temperatures and light winds, pollen dispersal will remain active.

Tomorrow’s Pollen Index: 7.6 (Medium-High)

While slightly lower than today, pollen levels remain elevated. Tree pollen will continue to dominate the count as early March warmth encourages budding and pollination.

Why It’s Happening Now

Recent warmer temperatures — and even warmer weather ahead — are accelerating tree bloom across the Piedmont. With highs climbing into the 70s this week, pollen production is likely to remain steady or increase.

Even brief rain chances Monday may only temporarily suppress pollen before levels rebound.

Allergy Season Tips

To help manage symptoms:

  • Keep windows closed at home and in your vehicle

  • Change HVAC filters regularly

  • Shower and change clothes after extended time outdoors

  • Take allergy medications consistently (not just after symptoms begin)

  • Monitor daily pollen updates

This is just the beginning of the spring allergy season in Rowan County. Tree pollen typically leads the charge in early March before grasses and other allergens join in later this spring.
