Wind Alert for Monday: Gusts Over 30 MPH Likely Across the Area

Sunday, December 28, 2025 - 8:23am

A strong cold front will move through central North Carolina on Monday, bringing gusty winds to Rowan County, Davie County, and Davidson County. While rainfall will be light, wind will be the main impact for all three counties.

What to Expect on Monday

  • Timing: Winds increase during the morning and peak late morning through mid-afternoon as the front passes.

  • Wind Speeds:

    • Sustained west to northwest winds 15–20 mph

    • Frequent gusts 30–35 mph, with a few higher gusts possible

  • Wind Shift: Southwest winds ahead of the front turn west/northwest behind it—ushering in colder air.

Why It Will Feel So Windy

Behind the front, rapid pressure rises and cold air advection allow stronger winds just above the surface to mix down. As clouds thin Monday afternoon, gusts become more noticeable across all three counties.

Impacts to Keep in Mind

  • Travel: Crosswinds for high-profile vehicles, especially on east–west roads

  • Outdoors: Loose items (decorations, trash bins) may blow around

  • Trees: Swaying limbs possible, especially where ground is damp

  • Cold Feel: Wind chills drop quickly Monday evening

County-by-County Snapshot

  • Rowan County: Gusts near 35 mph possible; temps fall through the afternoon.

  • Davie County: Gusts 25–30+ mph, with clearing behind the front.

  • Davidson County: Gusts 30–34 mph likely; breezy through late afternoon.

After the Wind

  • Monday Night: Skies clear, winds ease, lows in the low 20s; wind chills in the teens.

  • Tuesday: Sunny but chilly with lingering breezes.

Bottom Line

Monday is a high-wind day across Rowan, Davie, and Davidson counties. Rain amounts stay light, but strong gusts could briefly impact travel and outdoor plans. I’ll update if wind potential increases or if any advisories become necessary.
