Morning Arrival (6–8 AM)
A cold and wet start to the day is expected. Rain is likely during the arrival window, with a brief mix of wet snowflakes possible before 11 AM. Temperatures will hover between 36 and 39 degrees, which is well above freezing. No travel impacts are expected.
Light east-northeast wind around 3 to 5 mph. Visibility may be reduced at times due to light fog and steady precipitation.
Overall, a cold rain is expected for most students. Even if a few flakes mix in, they will not stick.
Afternoon Dismissal (2–4 PM)
Conditions gradually improve into the afternoon, but it remains chilly. A chance of lingering light rain continues through early afternoon, and patchy fog is possible after 1 PM. Temperatures will remain in the 36 to 38 degree range.
Winds stay light from the east-northeast.
Damp and cold at dismissal, but improving with no wintry impacts expected.
Snow vs. the Warm Nose
Any snowflakes that try to fall Friday morning will have to pass through a strong warm nose of air aloft. This warm layer melts precipitation well above the surface, keeping Rowan County primarily in a cold rain. Little to no accumulation is expected.
