advertise your local business here »A developing low-pressure system will move in early next week, bringing Rowan County another round of cold, steady rainfall. While this system will produce a wintry mix in the mountains and parts of northwest North Carolina, our local impacts will be limited to a chilly rain with no winter weather concerns for Rowan County.
What’s Driving This System
A cold front will slide south of the Carolinas Sunday night before stalling. At the same time, a disturbance moving out of the southern Plains will spark low-pressure development along the Gulf Coast. This classic setup, known as a Miller-A coastal low, will pull moisture northward into the Carolinas on Monday night into Tuesday.
With colder air wedged in place across western North Carolina, areas along the Blue Ridge and the I-40 corridor may see a brief period of freezing rain or sleet Tuesday morning. However, temperatures in Rowan County will remain safely above freezing through the event.
Timing for Rowan County
Monday Night:
Clouds increase with rain likely after 4 a.m. Overnight lows stay near or just above freezing, preventing any wintry issues.
Tuesday Morning to Early Afternoon:
Steady rainfall is likely, especially before 1 p.m. Expect a cold, damp day with highs only near the mid-40s. Rain may taper to lighter showers through the afternoon.
Tuesday Evening:
A few lingering showers will be possible before clearing begins. Skies turn partly cloudy overnight with lows dipping into the upper 20s.
Expected Impacts
-
No winter weather expected locally.
Surface temperatures remain too warm for any frozen precipitation in Rowan County. -
Cold rain and wet roads.
Rainfall totals look manageable, but the combination of wet pavement and temperatures in the 40s will make for a raw, uncomfortable day. -
Mountains and NW Piedmont:
These regions could see wintry mix and freezing rain Tuesday morning, but impacts stay well north and west of Rowan County.
Looking Ahead
High pressure returns Tuesday night into Wednesday, bringing sunshine back to the area. Temperatures will stay below normal through midweek before trending closer to seasonal averages by late week.
