Will We See Snowflakes in Rowan County Tonight?

Monday, November 10, 2025 - 7:38am

After a weekend cold front and a sharp drop in temperatures, many across Rowan County are wondering if we could see our first snowflakes of the season tonight. While a few flakes may fly, significant accumulation is not expected.

A Quick Burst of Cold

An Arctic air mass continues to build across the Carolinas, sending temperatures tumbling into the 20s and 30s. Northwest winds have brought dry, cold air to the Piedmont, while the mountains to our west are seeing the first northwest-flow snow event of the season.

Higher elevations near the North Carolina–Tennessee border could see several inches of snow by early Tuesday, with a Winter Weather Advisory and Winter Storm Warning in effect for those areas.

What About Rowan County?

Computer models continue to show a small chance of brief snow showers this evening, mainly between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. While some light flurries may reach into the western and central Piedmont, surface temperatures will be too warm and ground moisture too low for any accumulation.

If snowflakes do make it this far east, they’ll likely be light and short-lived — more of a visual reminder that winter is on the way than a measurable event.

Coldest Night So Far

Even without measurable snow, tonight will be the coldest night of the season. A Freeze Warning is in effect from 8 p.m. to 9 a.m. Tuesday, with lows in the lower to mid-20s.

Residents should protect outdoor pipes, bring in pets and plants, and prepare for a frosty start to Veterans Day morning.

Looking Ahead

After the freeze, sunshine returns Tuesday with highs in the upper 40s. A steady warming trend begins Wednesday, when highs climb back into the 60s and dry weather continues through the rest of the week.
