Frost Watch & November Outlook: Cool Nights Ahead for Rowan County

Wednesday, October 29, 2025 - 9:28am

The first real taste of frost is on the way for Rowan County as we head into the final days of October and the start of November. A stretch of clear skies and calm winds is expected to set up over the weekend, creating ideal conditions for patchy frost across much of the area.

Frost Watch:
Saturday and Sunday mornings are shaping up to be the coldest so far this season, with lows dipping into the mid-30s. Frost will be most likely in open, low-lying areas and sheltered spots where air can settle overnight. Gardeners and growers should plan to protect sensitive plants and outdoor vegetation by Friday evening.

Frost typically marks the end of the growing season in Rowan County, and this year’s timing is right on schedule. The National Weather Service notes that average first frost for our area usually occurs between October 28 and November 5.

Looking Ahead to November:
The start of November looks to keep temperatures on the cool side, especially overnight. However, daytime highs will moderate quickly next week, reaching back into the 60s with dry air in place. The month’s early pattern points toward below-average rainfall, though periodic cold fronts could bring quick shots of showers and reinforcing cool air.

Long-range outlooks suggest the second week of November could trend milder again, with a brief warm-up before another cooldown toward mid-month.
