How Much Rain Could Rowan County See This Week?

A slow-moving storm system will keep Rowan County under gray skies and steady rain through much of the week, bringing some of the most widespread rainfall the region has seen in months.

Steady Rain Through Midweek

A cold-air wedge has settled across the Carolinas, trapping cool air near the surface while waves of low pressure ride along the stalled boundary. That setup will lead to off-and-on showers through at least Wednesday night, with periods of heavier rain at times.

Forecast models continue to show a 1.5 to 2-inch average rainfall total across the county by late Wednesday, with some localized spots — especially near the Uwharrie foothills — possibly topping 2.5 inches. Most of that rainfall will fall between Monday afternoon and Tuesday night, though scattered showers are expected to linger into midweek.

No Major Flood Concerns, But Ponding Possible

The region has been relatively dry lately, so widespread flooding is not expected. However, minor street and low-lying area ponding could develop during heavier bursts of rain. Drivers should watch for standing water on rural roads and reduced visibility during the morning and evening commutes.

Cool, Damp Conditions Continue

Temperatures will stay in the low 50s by day and mid-40s at night, with patchy fog common each morning. Winds from the northeast will gust at times between 20–25 mph, adding to the chilly feel.

Looking Ahead

The rain begins to taper off late Thursday as drier air moves in from the west. By Friday, sunshine returns with highs climbing back toward the upper 50s, setting up a crisp but pleasant weekend ahead.
