Pollen, Air Quality & Soil Temperature Outlook for Rowan County

Saturday, October 25, 2025 - 8:18am

As we head into the final week of October, overall conditions across Rowan County remain favorable for outdoor activities, gardening, and yard work. Here’s the latest outlook on pollen, air quality, and soil temperatures.

Pollen Levels
Pollen counts remain low across the county. Tree, grass, and weed pollens are all minimal thanks to cooler temperatures and recent rainfall. Mold and ragweed may still cause occasional allergy symptoms, but the risk is much lower than earlier in the season.

Air Quality
The air quality index (AQI) for Salisbury and surrounding areas remains in the “Good” range, typically between 25–30. Fine particulate matter (PM2.5) concentrations are low, and no restrictions are in place. Outdoor work and exercise are encouraged, though residents should continue to follow open burning rules and check air quality forecasts before burning yard waste.

Soil Temperature
Soil temperatures across the county are slowly cooling but remain above freezing. Data from nearby monitoring stations in the Piedmont region show average soil temperatures in the upper 50s to near 60°F, which supports continued root growth and soil microbial activity. With nighttime lows in the 30s and 40s expected next week, soil cooling will increase as we approach November.

Summary

  • Pollen levels are low.

  • Air quality remains good.

  • Soil is cooling but still active for fall planting.

It’s a great weekend to enjoy time outdoors before the first freeze of the season arrives in early November.
