Sunday will bring more clouds, cooler temperatures, and noticeably gusty winds across Rowan County as a coastal low pressure system tracks north along the Carolina coastline.
While this system stays well east of our area, it’s close enough to tighten the pressure gradient—meaning stronger northeast winds funnel across the Piedmont.
What to Expect
-
Wind: North 10–13 mph with gusts up to 25 mph
-
High: Near 67°
-
Rain: Scattered showers (50% chance), mainly during the day
-
Fog: Patchy around midday
These winds won’t be damaging, but they’ll be enough to make the air feel cooler and keep clouds in place most of the day. If you’re planning outdoor activities, expect a brisk, fall-like feel—especially near open areas or higher terrain.
The Weather Setup
A coastal low is riding north along the Atlantic side of the Carolinas, while high pressure builds in from the northwest. The difference in pressure between the two systems creates a steady northeast flow across the Piedmont.
This type of setup is common in October and often brings cool, cloudy, and breezy conditions—sometimes called a “wedge” pattern—especially east of the mountains.
Looking Ahead
As the coastal low moves toward the Mid-Atlantic by Monday, the clouds and wind will ease. Columbus Day looks much brighter with sunshine and highs near 73°, and a stretch of dry, pleasant weather will follow through midweek.
