Tropical Storm Jerry Forms in the Atlantic

Tuesday, October 7, 2025 - 11:26am

The National Hurricane Center has upgraded the system we’ve been monitoring east of the Windward Islands to Tropical Storm Jerry, the 10th named storm of the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season.

As of the 11:00 AM update, Jerry is located roughly 1,000 miles east of the Windward Islands and moving west at about 21 mph. Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph, and gradual strengthening is expected over the next couple of days. Current forecasts indicate Jerry could become a hurricane by Wednesday or Thursday as it approaches the northern Leeward Islands.

Track & Forecast Discussion

Jerry is expected to turn toward the west-northwest and then more toward the north by this weekend as a trough develops over the western Atlantic. This track would likely take the storm well away from the southeastern U.S. coast, and no impacts are expected for Rowan County or the Carolinas based on current guidance.

Key Takeaways

  • Location: About 1,000 miles east of the Windward Islands

  • Movement: West at 21 mph

  • Winds: 40 mph

  • Forecast: Could become a hurricane before reaching the northern Leeward Islands

  • Local Impacts: None expected for Rowan County

We’ll continue to monitor Jerry’s progress through the week, but at this time there is no threat to North Carolina or the local area.
