Early Week: Warm and Humid
Warm temperatures near 80° through Tuesday mean mosquitoes will stay active, especially during the evening hours. Shaded areas, damp grass, and low-lying yards are likely to see more mosquito movement.
Midweek: Storms Then a Short Surge
Showers and thunderstorms expected Wednesday will briefly knock mosquito activity down. However, the combination of leftover puddles and post-storm humidity may create new breeding spots for a short window following the rain.
Late Week: Relief Arrives
Once the cold front moves through Wednesday night, cooler and drier air will take hold. Highs in the 60s and lows in the 40s will sharply cut back mosquito numbers by Thursday and Friday, marking one of the last big slowdowns of the season.
What You Can Do
-
Dump or drain standing water in planters, buckets, and birdbaths.
-
Use EPA-approved repellents such as DEET or picaridin when outdoors during dawn or dusk.
-
Wear long sleeves and pants when possible in the evening.
-
Check window and door screens for any gaps.
Even with the cool-down coming, a few warm afternoons can bring a quick resurgence. Keep an eye out through mid-October, especially after any rain events.
