The High Country is now near peak with 55–65% color, featuring vibrant reds, oranges, and golds across Grandfather Mountain, Rough Ridge, and Beacon Heights. Leaf drop is about 20%, but conditions are ideal for stunning views this weekend.
The Blue Ridge Parkway from Asheville to Linville is sitting at 30–40% color, with maples and hickories brightening. The Great Smoky Mountains are at ~35%, creating spectacular contrasts of green valleys and colorful ridges. Elk activity continues to add to the autumn atmosphere.
The Foothills are entering the early patchy stage, with 15–20% color in the South Mountains and along Lake James. Meanwhile, Rowan County remains at just 5–7%, with dogwoods and blackgums giving the first strong pops of red.
Cool nights, sunny days, and light winds are combining for excellent color conditions. This weekend will be one of the best opportunities to see near-peak foliage in the High Country.
Where to Go This Weekend: Rough Ridge, Linn Cove Viaduct, and Beacon Heights are must-sees on the Parkway. In the Smokies, Clingmans Dome and Newfound Gap promise colorful views above valley fog. Locally, Dunn’s Mountain and Sloan Park offer the first glimpses of change.
Stay tuned for next week’s update as color spreads rapidly into the foothills and closer to Rowan County.
