General Thunderstorm Risk Today for Rowan County
The Storm Prediction Center includes Rowan County in a general thunderstorm area today. Rain chances remain very low locally, but an isolated shower or brief rumble of thunder cannot be completely ruled out—mainly during the mid- to late-afternoon. Most communities will stay dry with warm, mostly sunny conditions.
At a Glance
-
Overall risk: General (no organized severe weather expected)
-
Rain chance: Very low
-
Timing window: Mid-afternoon through early evening
-
Primary concerns: Brief downpour, gusty breeze, lightning if a cell develops
Details
A weak ridge aloft and limited moisture keep rain chances minimal across the Piedmont today. A stray cell could drift off the mountains and weaken as it moves east. If a shower or storm does pop, expect a quick downpour and lightning before it dissipates.
Temperatures will run a little above normal, with highs in the mid-80s and a light northeast breeze.
What You Can Do
-
Outdoor plans can proceed as normal.
-
Keep an eye on the sky this afternoon and head indoors if thunder is heard.
-
Lightning can strike even with a distant storm; “when thunder roars, go indoors.”
