Pollen Forecast:
Weed pollen, especially ragweed and pigweed, continues to be the main contributor. Levels are moderate to high through Thursday, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours on dry, breezy days. Pollen remains moderate heading into the weekend, with a slight decrease possible if overnight dew and increased cloud cover move in.
Air Quality Forecast:
Air quality remains generally good across Rowan County. Today and Thursday will be mostly in the “Good” category with only light ozone and particle levels. On Friday and into the weekend, air quality may trend toward “Moderate” in the afternoon as temperatures rise. This should not present problems for most people, though those with asthma or respiratory issues may want to limit strenuous outdoor activities during the warmest part of the day.
Soil Temperatures:
Average soil temperatures in Rowan County are currently in the 72 to 75 degree range at a 4-inch depth. These readings will climb slightly through Friday with upper 80s highs expected, then level off over the weekend with cooler afternoon temperatures. Warm soils are favorable for late-season gardening, seeding, and fall crops. Mushrooms may also become more common in shaded, damp areas following recent rainfall.
