Cool Start, Hot Finish: Rowan County’s Temperature Swing This Week

Tuesday, September 2, 2025 - 8:13am

Rowan County is starting September with a refreshing change in the air. After a hot and stormy end to August, high pressure has settled along the East Coast, keeping our weather calm and comfortable for the first half of the week.

A Comfortable Start

Tuesday and Wednesday will feature mostly sunny skies with highs topping out in the upper 70s to near 80 degrees. Overnight lows will dip into the mid-50s to around 60, offering some of the coolest nights we’ve seen in weeks. This pattern is typical of early September, when high pressure allows cooler and drier air to filter in.

Midweek Front Brings Small Storm Chance

By Thursday, a weak cold front will slide toward the Carolinas. While storm chances remain low at just 20 percent, it’s enough to keep an eye on for anyone planning afternoon or evening outdoor activities. Otherwise, sunshine will dominate with highs back into the low to mid-80s.

A Warm Weekend Ahead

As we head into Friday and Saturday, the weather pattern shifts. An upper ridge building from the west will bring compressional warming and rising temperatures. Highs will push into the upper 80s by Friday, with the first 90-degree readings possible on Saturday.

What to Expect

  • Tuesday–Wednesday: Mostly sunny, highs in the upper 70s to low 80s, cool nights in the 50s.

  • Thursday: A 20 percent chance of showers or storms, highs mid-80s.

  • Friday–Saturday: Sunny and much warmer, highs upper 80s to near 90.

After a cool start, this week will finish much hotter, showing just how quickly September weather in Rowan County can swing.
