Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued for Portions of Rowan, Iredell, Catawba, Lincoln, and Mecklenburg Counties

The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning effective until 5:15 PM EDT for the following areas:

  • Southeastern Catawba County

  • Northeastern Lincoln County

  • Southern Iredell County

  • North Central Mecklenburg County

  • Southwestern Rowan County

At 4:09 PM EDT, radar indicated severe thunderstorms forming along a line stretching from just southeast of Statesville to east of Newton and northeast of Lincolnton. These storms are moving southeast at approximately 20 miles per hour.

Hazards

  • Wind gusts up to 60 mph

  • Radar-indicated storm activity capable of producing damage

Expected Impacts

  • Damage to trees and power lines is possible

  • Isolated power outages and brief hazardous conditions on roadways
