Strong Thunderstorm Approaching Rowan, Iredell, and Catawba Counties Monday Afternoon

The National Weather Service has issued a Special Weather Statement for an approaching strong thunderstorm expected to impact southeastern Catawba, central Iredell, and west-central Rowan County through 4:45 PM.

Storm Details

As of 4:01 PM, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm located about 5 miles northwest of Statesville, moving southeast at 25 mph. This storm is expected to cross into the region over the next 30–45 minutes.

Hazards include:

• Wind gusts up to 40 mph

• Pea-size hail

These conditions are capable of:

• Knocking down small tree limbs

• Blowing around unsecured outdoor items

• Causing minor hail damage to vehicles and outdoor objects

• Statesville

• Troutman

• Mooresville

• Mount Ulla

• Cleveland

• Catawba

• Claremont

• Sherrills Ford

• Lake Norman and Lake Norman State Park

On the Water?

If you're on Lake Norman, take immediate precautions. This storm will bring the threat of gusty winds and lightning, making lake conditions hazardous. The National Weather Service reminds everyone:
"If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning."
