While development chances remain low for now, it’s something to watch as we approach the July 4th holiday weekend.
What We Know:
A frontal boundary is expected to stall and weaken near the Southeast coast later this week. By the weekend, a broad area of low pressure may try to develop in the region—either just off the Southeast coast, near Florida, or over the eastern Gulf of Mexico.
If the system forms, it could take on some subtropical or tropical characteristics, though conditions will not be highly favorable for rapid development.
Current Development Chances (as of June 30, 2:00 AM):
• Formation chance through 48 hours: Near 0 percent
• Formation chance through 7 days: Low – 20 percent
What This Means for Rowan County:
At this time, there is no immediate threat to our area. However, tropical systems that form close to the coast can sometimes shift track quickly, so we’ll continue to monitor this one closely throughout the week. If development occurs, moisture from the system could impact parts of the Southeast heading into the weekend.
Looking Ahead:
Confidence in the forecast for Independence Day remains high for drier and sunnier conditions in Rowan County, but we'll continue to keep a close eye on this feature in case anything changes.
