Charlotte FC Extends Pep Biel Loan Through 2025 MLS Season

Midfielder’s stay could become permanent if performance thresholds are met

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (June 30, 2025) — Charlotte FC has secured a key piece of its midfield for the remainder of the 2025 Major League Soccer campaign, announcing today that the club has extended the loan of Spanish midfielder Pep Biel from Olympiacos FC through the end of the season. The deal includes a purchase option contingent on performance-based metrics.

“Pep has become a key piece of the Club since returning for his second stint in Charlotte,” said Charlotte FC General Manager Zoran Krneta. “You can see the player we saw when we first brought him come alive as he becomes more comfortable within our Club and the league. We want to continue seeing Pep thrive at our Club, which is why we felt it was crucial to keep him throughout the end of the season and potentially for the foreseeable future.”

Biel, 28, has been one of Charlotte FC’s most impactful players in 2025. In 19 MLS matches this season, the San Joan, Spain native has recorded six goals and eight assists — leading the team in assists and tying for the club lead in goals scored.

Since arriving in Charlotte on August 15, 2024, Biel has contributed eight goals and 11 assists in 30 league appearances. He is on pace to challenge his best-ever single-season totals from 2021–22 with FC Copenhagen, when he delivered 18 goals and 15 assists across all competitions, including eight goals and eight assists in Danish league play.

Biel’s creative influence and ability to unlock defenses have made him an indispensable asset in Charlotte’s midfield. With the extension, the club now has the opportunity to make the move permanent should Biel meet specific performance metrics outlined in the agreement.
