Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued for Southwestern Rowan County

The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for portions of southwestern Rowan County and northwestern Cabarrus County. The warning is in effect until 8:30 PM EDT.

Warning Details

As of 7:44 PM, radar indicated severe thunderstorms along a line stretching from north of Downtown Concord to just southwest of Kannapolis, moving northeast at 15 mph.

Hazards Expected

  • Wind gusts up to 60 mph

  • Quarter-size hail (1.00 inch)

These storms are capable of producing minor hail damage to vehicles and scattered wind damage to trees and power lines.

  • China Grove

  • Landis

  • Enochville

  • Coddle Creek Reservoir

  • Mount Ulla

  • Faith

  • Granite Quarry

  • Downtown Concord

What To Do

Residents in the warning area should move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows and stay indoors until the storm passes.

These storms are also producing continuous lightning, which is a threat even if you're not directly under a storm core. If you hear thunder, you’re close enough to be struck.
