GREENSBORO — South Rowan’s Remi Hagerty, Cressley Patterson of South Rowan, West Rowan’s Reese Poole, and A.L. Brown’s Myla McNeely all made their mark in the State Games held on June 24-25. The four local athletes joined teammates from Union, Cabarrus, and Mecklenburg counties to compete in the prestigious event.

West Rowan’s own Jimmy Greene served as the head coach of the Region 4 team, guiding them to a 2-1 record and securing the bronze medal in a competitive six-team field. The region’s success reflected the strong teamwork and talent from the local players, who played alongside standout athletes from other counties.

Hagerty and Patterson, both part of the Class of 2028, were among the youngest participants, but their impressive performances during the high school season showed that they were more than capable of competing at this level. Hagerty, a standout pitcher for the Raiders, demonstrated poise on the mound, while Patterson, the team’s catcher, showcased her strong defensive and offensive skills.

Poole, a Class of 2027 player for the West Rowan Falcons, brought her power-hitting prowess to the game, even launching a home run during the State Games. A skilled shortstop, Poole continues to show why she is one of the top prospects in her class.

McNeely, also in the Class of 2027, impressed with her abilities as a middle infielder for the A.L. Brown Wonders. Her versatility and strong defensive skills were a key asset to her team during the event.

These talented young athletes have bright futures ahead and have proven their abilities on a regional stage. Their performances at the State Games not only highlight their individual talents but also represent the strength of Rowan County’s high school softball scene.
