Strong Thunderstorm Impacting Parts of Rowan, Cabarrus, Iredell, and Mecklenburg Counties

A strong thunderstorm is currently impacting southwestern Rowan County and surrounding areas this evening. The storm was located near Coddle Creek Reservoir around 6:27 PM and is moving east at just 5 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

Storm Hazards Include:

  • Wind gusts up to 50 mph

  • Hail up to half an inch in diameter

  • Frequent cloud-to-ground lightning

Locations Currently Affected:

  • Kannapolis

  • Concord

  • Enochville

  • Davidson

  • Areas near Coddle Creek Reservoir

What to Expect:
Gusty winds may knock down tree limbs or blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vehicles or outdoor items is possible. Lightning may strike well away from the storm core, making outdoor conditions dangerous.
