As the summer heat builds across Rowan County, lake season is officially here — and it’s arriving just in time for the weekend. Whether you’re headed to High Rock Lake, Badin Lake, or Tuckertown Reservoir, here’s your forecast and safety outlook through midweek.
Weekend Weather at the Lakes
Saturday and Sunday:
Both days will feature sunny skies, with highs reaching the upper 80s Saturday and low 90s on Sunday. Winds will be light, and rain chances remain low, especially outside the mountain region.
UV Index: Very High
Be sure to apply and reapply sunscreen frequently, especially between 10 AM and 4 PM.
Water Conditions:
Surface temperatures are running 77 to 81 degrees, depending on the lake and time of day. Expect good visibility and relatively calm water.
Next Week: Heat Ramps Up
Monday through Wednesday:
Temperatures will rise into the mid to upper 90s, with heat index values nearing 100 degrees. Expect continued dry and sunny conditions, which make for ideal boating weather — but also increase the risk of heat-related illness and sunburn.
Boating Tips in the Heat:
-
Keep water bottles on board and stay hydrated
-
Make sure life jackets are easily accessible
-
Limit alcohol and increase shaded areas if possible
-
Watch for signs of heat exhaustion
Any Storms Coming?
Isolated afternoon showers are possible — especially near the mountains — but coverage stays low through midweek. That means favorable conditions overall for lake recreation, with low risk of lightning delays during this stretch.
Know Before You Go
Each lake has unique rules and boating regulations. Be sure to check:
-
NC Wildlife boat ramp status and hours
-
Local restrictions on jet skis or speed zones
-
Fishing regulations if you're casting a line
Bottom line:
The weather is lining up perfectly for lake days — but the heat is no joke. Plan ahead, take safety seriously, and enjoy some of the best outdoor conditions we’ve had so far this summer.
