Weekend Weather Preview: What to Expect as Rain Chances Climb

Wednesday, June 11, 2025 - 1:38pm

After several days of dry, summerlike weather, Rowan County is headed into a wetter weekend pattern. While no all-day washouts are expected, daily storm chances will increase, especially in the afternoons and evenings from Friday through Sunday.

Here's what to expect—day by day:

Friday: A Gradual Increase in Storm Activity

High: 87° | Rain Chance: 60%
Friday starts off mostly cloudy with a chance of showers earlier in the day. Storm chances rise by mid-to-late afternoon, with showers and possibly a thunderstorm likely after 5 PM. Winds will be light, turning southwest by afternoon.

Timing Tip: If you’ve got outdoor plans, aim for the first half of the day.

Friday Night:
A few storms could linger through 11 PM, but coverage will taper off. Mostly cloudy overnight with a low around 70°.

Saturday: Typical Summer Setup

High: 86° | Rain Chance: 60% (mainly after 5 PM)
Saturday brings partly sunny skies during the day, but late-day showers and thunderstorms are likely, especially after 5 PM. This looks like a classic summertime setup, where warm daytime heating fuels evening activity.

Evening events or travel? Have a backup plan or keep a radar app handy.

Saturday Night:
A 30% chance of storms before 10 PM. Mostly cloudy with a low near 70°.

Sunday: The Stormiest of the Three Days

High: 85° | Rain Chance: 60% (mainly after 4 PM)
Storm chances remain elevated to wrap up the weekend. The atmosphere will be humid and unstable by late afternoon, supporting another round of scattered storms—again, mainly after 4 PM.

Sunday Night:
Storms may linger into the evening, with a 50% chance before midnight. Overnight low near 69°.

Why the Pattern Change?

A shift in the upper-level pattern combined with rising humidity is helping fuel this multi-day storm window. While no severe weather is expected at this time, storms could still bring gusty winds, heavy rainfall, and frequent lightning.

Planning Tips:

  • Mornings look mostly dry, making them the best time for outdoor chores or errands.

  • Have a weather app or Rowan County Weather alerts handy, especially after 2 PM each day.

  • Rain coverage is highest after 4–5 PM each afternoon.

We'll keep tracking this pattern and update with timing refinements as the weekend approaches.
