A strong thunderstorm is currently impacting parts of south-central Rowan County and northwestern Cabarrus County, prompting a weather alert through 1:00 PM EDT.
Storm Details
As of 12:24 PM, Doppler radar indicated a strong thunderstorm near Kannapolis, moving northeast at approximately 15 mph. This storm is producing:

Wind gusts up to 40 mph

Half-inch hail

Torrential rainfall
-
Frequent cloud-to-ground lightning
Areas Affected
The following locations may experience the worst of the storm as it tracks northeast:

China Grove

Downtown Concord

West Concord

Coddle Creek Reservoir
Hazards & Impacts

Gusty winds may break small tree limbs or blow around unsecured outdoor items such as umbrellas, lawn chairs, or decorations.

Hail up to 0.50" in diameter may cause minor damage to vehicles, garden plants, or outdoor equipment.

Heavy rainfall could result in localized flooding, especially in low-lying or poorly drained areas.

Frequent lightning presents a risk even outside of the heaviest rainfall. Lightning can strike up to 10 miles from the storm.
